About Hypnosis and Ego-State Therapy

I am a trained hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis is a most powerful and amazing tool in psychotherapy.

People tend to confuse “therapeutic hypnosis” with “stage hypnosis”. While in stage hypnosis people seem to lose control, during professional and therapeutic hypnosis, people do not lose control. They are in control of what they say, what messages they would like to accept and when they want to end the session. This is a respectful hypnosis that works hand in hand with the client’s goals as opposed to the “therapist’s goals”.

All teenagers and adults that I have worked with, using this tool, absolutely loved it! They also found that it is indeed a powerful tool, which works faster than the ordinary therapy.

There are a few kinds of hypnosis. The kind that I use is called: “ego-state hypnosis”.

What are ego-states?

Ego state theory maintains that the personality is composed of separate parts, rather than being a homogeneous whole. These parts (which everyone has) are called ego states. The therapist aims to work directly with the state that can best benefit from change, rather than merely working with an intellectual, talkative state.

An individual is made up of a number of different ego states; each has its own feeling of power or weakness, emotion, logic, skills, and other personal traits. When one says, "part of me wants to," one is referring to an ego state. Our various ego states help to make our lives rich, productive, and enjoyable. An ego state harbouring pain can cause unrest and unwanted emotional reactions. When two ego states are in conflict, the individual feels torn on an issue or a decision.

A person has some very strong ego-states which are supposed to assist him/her to cope with life and life challenges. These strong parts are called: “inner-strength”, “inner-love”, “inner-wisdom”, “inner-future” and “the nurturer”.

A person also has some challenged parts within his/her personality, which often consist of: “the critical voice”, “the insecure part”, “the anxious part”, “the over-eater part”, “the sad part”, “the angry part” etc…

As was explained on the home page, I always start with meeting the client’s “inner-strength” under hypnosis. During the second session of hypnosis we amplify the “inner-strength”. The hypnosis that follows this would be, meeting all the parts of the personality that are related to the challenge at hand.

If the challenge for Sarah is “over-eating” for example, I would ask to speak to the part of the personality that is responsible for the over-eating. I would ask it for its name, age, role, reason for appearing, its needs etc….

What emerges is truly fascinating! The clients themselves are so amazed!

I then ask to speak to all the other parts that are involved in some way or another with this problem and I interview each one separately.

I then look for parts that are strong and are prepared to help the challenged parts.

This method is phenomenal and it usually works within a short space of time.

As it is difficult to explain more when trying to keep things short, you are welcome to contact me to get more info about this method.
